What is VoiceThread?

A VoiceThread is a collaborative, multimedia slide show that holds images, documents, and videos and allows people to navigate pages and leave comments in 5 ways - using voice (with a mic or telephone), text, audio file, or video (via a webcam).

Waltham Public Schools has a district-wide voicethread subscription to Voicethread. It is an education account. Here is the link to the account: http://wps.ed.voicethread.com/#q

Bentley Students have created a page about Voicethread on the Bentley University Support Page

User Names for VoiceThread

Teachers and students need to be set-up to have their own login at http://wps.ed.voicethread.com/#q
Usernames can be entered by teachers (or Instructional Technology Specialists, Library Teachers) who have accounts in voicethread and who have the setting to manage.

The protocol for setting up usernames (both teachers and students) is to use the same username that is used for the school network (column C below). Users will login with just their username (not the k12 e-mail name).

If you add students, one at a time, add the following information:
first_name
last_name
first_name last_initial (this will be public within the ed.voicethread)
a password (users can manually change it once they login)

“A bunch” of student names can be uploaded at once if you put the information into an Excel spreadsheet and then save it as a csv file. The following information, in this order, must be entered in the spreadsheet:
Column A
Column B
Column C
Column D
Column E
Column F
first_name
last_name
Identity (use first_namelast_initial as this is “public” in the ed voicethread)
email_username (use username for school network; eliminate @k12.waltham.ma.us)
password (can be changed by user)
type (e.g.
student or educator)

A template file for entering student names is at the bottom of this page.
PLEASE SEE YOUR Instructional Technology Specialist TO GET HELP WITH SETTING UP THE CSV FILE.
